Spring thoughts

Minnesota is jokingly described as "ten months of winter and two months of poor skiing." For those of us who don't ski or do any kind of winter outdoor activities, winter plain sucks. Cold weather is tolerated, not embraced and enjoyed. Winter means frozen pipes, shoveling snow, car trouble and long commutes.

At the fist sign of mercury crawling barely above 40 F, Minnesotans shed their parkas and boots and don summer flip-flops and t-shirts. Seriously, to many here spring is simply bypassed.

Spring means new cute clothes. Green seems to be the color of the season. I went shopping over the weekend and was amazed at the shades of green surronding me -- anywhere from acidic lime to deep emerald. I am surprised I didn't like green before.

Spring outfits also mean revealing pasty white skin, or in my case -- pasty olive. I got a spray-on tan because in the past the foam and the cream looked really fake.

The spray was a little better, but I still look like an Asian Oompa-Loompa. Besides, the back of my legs looks like orange pantyhose splashed with chlorine. Ewww....
